Das Canadian Model of Occupational Performance (CMOP) wurde ab 1983 vom kanadischen Berufsverband der Ergotherapie (CAOT) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem kanadischen Ministerium für Nationale Gesundheit und Soziales entwickelt. Im Jahr 2007 wurde das Modell zum CMOP-E weiterentwickelt.

The CMOP-E includes three main components: person, environment, and occupation. In this model, the inner part represents “Person”, and its center is the spirituality of a person. The other components surrounding a person’s spirituality are affective, physical, and cognitive abilities. As the CMOP-E does not specify this process of enablement, the Canadian Model of Client-Centred Enablement (CMCE) was developed. In the next section, both the Canadian Practice Process Framework and the Canadian Model of Client-Centred Enablement are discussed, to facilitate an understanding of the practice of occupational therapy using the CMOP-E.
